As usual, we are back with the three books released this week that you should be reading. This week we have a whole lot of fiction for you from romance to the fantastical. EL James of the infamous Fifty Shades Trilogy has released her latest steamy romance which is sure to not disappoint. Then, we have a little bit of a quieter look at romance in college followed by a novel full of magic. If you could find a way to trap or bind painful memories or feelings in books would you? Let’s take a look!
The Mister by E L James
With a move from the West coast of North America to the aristocratic elite of London society, James has crafted a story which definitely possesses the elements that made her Fifty Shades books so popular. The main characters, Maxim Trevelyn and Alessia Demachi, are much more worldly and this story takes a much more sinister tone which has the two tromping all over England and even into the Balkans. If you are looking for a beach read which has intrigue, adventure, and passionate love then you will not be able to put down this page turner.
Normal People by Sally Rooney
This is a quieter love story which begins with two secret high school sweethearts: Connell and Marianne. Marianne is by no means popular in high school as she spends most of her time engaged in intellectual pursuits while Connell is the star football player. When the two are accepted to Trinity College everything changes with Marianna finally fitting in and Connell becoming the outcast. As they make it through university they find themselves constantly drawn together, but Marianne begins to stay within an elite social group. Connell must figure out where he fits in her world, and if he even wants to.
The Binding by Bridget Collins
If you have ever seen the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind then you will find this novel similar in the sense that memories can be locked away and erased. A young farmer by the name of Emmett finds out that his calling is that of a Bookbinder, meaning he has the power to erase memories and store them inside specially made books. However, as his training commences and he is given access to the books in which memories are stored he finds one with his own name as the title. When he opens that book and finds out what was locked away his world changes. If you have always loved books, then this one will take you on a spellbinding ride both through the human psyche but also just how important memories and the emotions they evoke are to the story of what makes you, you.
