It is that time of the week again. Here is our roundup of the top three releases of the week. There was a lot of fiction to wade through and with summer quickly approaching it is clear that chick lit is being released in droves so that everyone can have that easy read. There are a couple of excellent fiction novels set in Europe, and one set in the US that will make for the perfect lazy summer read all you need is your sun lounger.
The Spanish Promise by Karen Swan
This novel is a mystery and a historical romance rolled into one, and it all takes place on the backdrop of Madrid, Spain. The protagonist, Charlotte who is an English wealth counselor is due to be married in a week but accepts a job for the very wealthy Mendoza family which leads her to uncover a family secret from the Spanish Civil War era. Intrigued by what she finds she gets sucked into this family mystery and lets her own personal life fall by the wayside until it finds her in a most unexpected way. This is one book you will want to read in one sitting.
Cape May by Chip Creek
Set in Cape May, New Jersey this novel brings you down a nostalgic path in the 1950s when a newlywed couple comes to town for the summer. Henry and Effie do not know each other that well and just as they are about to head back to their lives in the South where morality reigns supreme they meet a wealthy trio summering there. As the days’ progress and Effie and Henry are drawn into this charismatic family which will ultimately lead to a chain of events which may affect their marriage forever the reader gets to see the slow spiral of corruption. Not to be confused with a romance but more of a rumination on what exactly it means to be married this is a book that will have you thinking for days afterward.
The Temptation Of Gracie by Santa Montefiore
This is a tale of lost love and how a family is brought together by something that happened forty-one years ago. Gracie Burton, a recent English widow decides that she wants to return to Tuscany where she had spent fifteen years in her youth apprenticing to an art collector. She decides to go on a cooking course to get reacquainted with the area and finds that someone from her past is still there. Her daughter and granddaughter decide to join her and find out about how she ended up with her husband in England and not her love in Italy. It seems like this week is all about romance in terms of releases.
