Wow can you believe that it has been 53 years since the release of the classic movie that touched everyone’s hearts, and vocal chords. The hills are definitely still alive. Eleanor Parker as The Baroness

The Baroness was the character that everyone loved to hate. She was fabulous, and her gowns were divine, but we could not wait until she was out of there and Maria won over the Captain’s heart.

Eleanor Parker Now

Eleanor Parker continued to act after The Sound of Music in movies including Caged, Detective Story, and The Man with the Golden Arm. She appeared on many television shows, including Fantasy Island, Hawaii 5-0, Bracken’s World and The Love Boat. She died in 2013 at the age of 91.

Richard Haydn as Max

Richard Haydn was the lovable Uncle Max, who played match maker for Maria and the Captain. He was a great addition to the family, and particularly the scene where the children do the puppet show ‘high on a hill was a lonely goat’. That scene is a great one.

Richard Haydn Now

Richard Haydn spent a long career as a character actor and also spent some time in the 1940’s directing his own movies (like Mr. Music with Bing Crosby). He starred in a scary episode of The Twilight Zone and played Herr Falkstein in Young Frankenstein. He also voiced the caterpillar in the original 1951 animated movie Alice in Wonderland. He died in 1985 at the age of 80.
