How To Be A More Thankful Person

With Thanksgiving coming up its time to reflect on what we can be thankful for in our lives. Being thankful and showing gratitude shouldn’t end as soon as Thanksgiving is over. In fact, after years of research, scientists are now arguing that being a more thankful person can actually be good for your health as it can make you more optimistic, decrease depression, lower blood pressure and give your immune system an extra boost. It’s true that when our mental mood is positive our bodies are less stressed. So, instead of being thankful once a year at Thanksgiving, here are some helpful tips to help you be a healthier, more thankful person.

Say thank you to your partner
When we recognize our partner’s contributions and say thank you, it helps make them feel more secure and loved within the relationship.

This ultimately builds trust and intimacy and will strengthen a relationship. So just a simple ‘thank you’ can improve relations and strengthen bonds.

Use gratitude inventories to improve your mood
We all have those bad days were everything seems to be acting against us. Next time you are in a bad mood or feel depressed or unhappy, try reminding yourself of all the positive things you have in your life. When we concentrate on the good in life we feel good and in turn, when we feel good and adapt our thinking we can improve our behaviors. So when you feel at your worst simply think of 5 simple things you can be thankful for. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated, it can be something simple and mundane.

Forgive yourself
A lot of the time when we hold on to our old mistakes we can end up resenting ourselves and negatively affecting our self-esteem, mood and a lot of other things. Instead, we need to learn to let our anger and our regrets go so that we can get rid of the negativity that comes along with those feelings.

Also when we hold on to past mistakes we are less likely to learn from them. Instead, admit a mistake was made, take responsibility for it and think about what you can do better in the future to avoid repeating that mistake.
