This trendy beauty ingredient is quickly making its way to the top of the list of beauty must-haves. With its all-natural and exfoliating power its seems there is nothing that activated charcoal cant do. While you don’t want to ingest any of it (long story but activated charcoal prevents your body from absorbing medicines and certain nutrients), you can certainly use it on your skin, in your toothpaste and even in your hair. Here are some of the best beauty uses for activated charcoal.
Activated charcoal is a great exfoliator and when you add some to toothpaste and brush your teeth with it, it is a fantastic way to get rid of stains and whiten your teeth. Just be sure not to brush too hard when using charcoal as this can cause damage and pain. Instead, brush gently and occasionally as too much can hurt your gums and dentine. If you take any prescription medication or vitamins, make sure to not take them until an hour after brushing.
Exfoliate your face
If you long for a solution to blackheads and clogged pores then search no further. By adding some charcoal powder to your face wash or by making a paste using charcoal and some water or coconut oil, you can make the perfect exfoliating scrub. Simply combine the charcoal with your liquid of choice and apply it to the face, gently rubbing in circular motions. The charcoal is excellent for cleaning away dirt and dead skin cells and its not too harsh on your skin. Just make sure to not rub too hard or use too frequently.
Acne face mask
If you want to clear blocked pores but also absorb excess facial oil then combine a tablespoon of charcoal with a tablespoon of bentonite clay.
Then add some apple cider vinegar to the mix to make a paste and apply it to the skin as a mask. Let your homemade mask sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water. This mask will whiten your skin, absorb oils and clear those pores in no time.
