Everyone loves having that deep brown glow of a summer tan but the damage that comes from laying under the sun’s harsh rays to achieve it is not worth it in the long run. That does not mean that you have to forgo your summer tan though. There are a vast array of self-tanners on the market designed to make you golden and not orange. After some research and a few tests we have determined which self-tanners will give you that perfect golden glow.
Tips Before You Apply
Before you use self-tanner there are a couple of things you will want to do to avoid a somewhat “streaky” tan. Exfoliate your entire body to remove any dead skin that might darken into unsightly brown patches. Then, if you are using a spray, spray the self-tanner in a single layer as you can build a tan but decreasing one is a lot harder. And lastly, WASH your hands after you rub in any self-tanner or your palms will be a very dark color which will not look very natural. Now, here are the best self-tanners that have been tried and tested.
St. Tropez Classic Bronzing Mousse
Mousses and sprays are the best way to avoid an unsightly streaky tan and this mousse is considered to be one of the best. It is very smooth and you can spread it in an even layer over your entire body, including knees and wrists which are notoriously hard to get an even self-tan on. It is pricey but if you want a natural glow without a sunburn and the damage from it then it is well worth the money.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare: Alpha Beta Glow Pad
This is a bit of a different self-tanner experience because it is a wipe that is designed to exfoliate while placing self-tanner on your skin. One thing to be mindful of with this one is that it will take a couple of hours for that brown glow to develop. Make sure you avoid over wiping because you want your tan to be the same shade all over. This pad also has hydroxy acids in it so it will work to do a bit of anti-aging at the same time which cannot be said for real tanning.
