The dazzling festive lights on Oxford street illuminate the city, and the famous toy store Hamleys is a sight to see, with its windows full of enticing toys for children who are making sure they are on Santa’s nice list. So if you are feeling festive, our guide to the best Christmas events, winter activities and cosy pop-ups in London, you’ll have a holiday so jolly that it’ll make Santa jealous. Make sure you tick them all off.

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is a giant german market in Hyde Park full of exciting stalls selling wonderful gifts. There is an amusement park with fun rides and an ice skating rink. Make sure you have a mulled wine.

Christmas Lights

Carnaby Street:

See the city at its most sparkliest, on Carnaby street. The fashionable street will blast on its bright and bling Christmas lights with one of its famous shopping parties, where visitors can get a very festive 20 percent off in most shops in the area. Carnaby’s Christmas decorations are usually the most distinctive in town. You can catch them until January 5.

Covent Garden

Covent Garden’s quaint cobbled streets  and market buildings are very special at this time of year. The Christmas decorations bring back a mistletoe theme for 2017, with over 40 mistletoe chandeliers hanging over the area’s streets and in the pretty market buildings.

Regent Street:

The famous shopping stretch gets its usual Christmas makeover with hundreds of lights down the length of the road. It is definitely a destination worth visiting. After you hit all the chic stores, stop off for a hot chocolate and wander the lit up streets.

Winter time in South Bank Centre

Southbank Centre is a wonderful place to be at Christmas, so make sure you pay a visit to this London institution over the holiday period. There’ll be pop-ups, activities and all manner of Christmas fun to jolly up your holiday. With festive food to try and mulled wine, it makes for a very enjoyable evening, on the river.

Christmas in London is truly magical. All of its hotels get into the spirit too.

For a traditional Christmas, check into London’s most iconic hotel.  It boasts exquisite rooms. And for a ‘turkey and all the trimmings’ meal, the Claridge’s Festive menu (£85 per person) is available as a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner, or Boxing Day lunch. After a great breakfast, walk it all off in nearby Hyde Park.

What’s more Christmassy than ice-skating? Check into the ME Hotel and head over to the Fortnum & Mason rink at Somerset House. There is even fun for non-skaters, who can enjoy a tipple at the Alpine-themed lodge.
