The Women Of Harry Potter: Where Are They Now?

Romilda Vane Then

Romilda Vane is a silent vixen in the films. The Gryffindor student developed an unhealthily obsessive crush on her fellow Gryffindor house mate Harry Potter and even slipped him with a love potion. She fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, but it remains unknown if she survived the final battle of the Second Wizarding War. Yet as she was not mentioned amongst the casualties, it can be assumed that her fate was unfortunate.

Romilda Vane Now

Anna Shaffer joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Ruby, the sister of Duncan Button in 2011. Shaffer made her on screen exit from Hollyoaks in 2014.  In 2016 she featured in a series called Class,  and most recently starred in the award winning movie Vengeance.

Lavender Brown Then

Lavender, played by Jessie Cane was known as the Stage 5 Clinger in her obsession for Ron Weasley. Her role in the movie series is to provoke Hermione’s jealousy, until she meets her fate, and dies at the hands of Fenir Greyback before she can fulfill her teenage love.

Jessie made her debut in the Harry Potter films in ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, and whilst she gained a huge fan following as Lavender, she now occasionally acts, but prefers the quieter life, as an illustrator. She recently published her first comic book, entitled ‘Lovesick’, and is also a mum-of-one.


Luna Lovegood Then

Known as the “weird girl” in Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, Luna Lovegood is the poster child for being yourself and knowing that the people who really matter will have no trouble seeing your value.

Evanna put down her wand with the final Harry Potter film in 2011. Since starring in the famous films, she has made appearances in TV shows such as Sinbad, Apex and Danny and the Human Zoo. Yet, despite her acting success, Evanna recently opened up about wanting to leave the world of Harry Potter behind her. She told her Instagram followers: “I’m different now and need to honor that and challenge myself to create something else, something from the person I am today. “I feel like I’m stuck in my 18 year old self artistically when I actually have a lot more to say.”

Minvera McGonagall Then

Professor McGonagall was the lovable headmistress of Hogwarts. She was also a member of the Order of the Phoenix. In 1995, she opposed Dolores Umbridge, the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. She joined in the Battle of Hogwarts (where she led the resistance against Lord Voldemort). She survived the Second Wizarding War and continued her job as Headmistress.

Minvera McGonagall Now

Maggie Smith is a well-known actress in her own right. She has had an extensive career in stage, film, and television spanning over sixty-six years. Smith has appeared in over 50 films and is one of Britain’s most recognizable actresses.  She was made a Dame by the Queen in 1990 for services to the performing arts and received the Companion of Honor from the Queen in 2014 for services to drama.

Ginny Weasley Then

She cemented her place in the public eye playing Ron’s younger sister, and eventually Harry’s love interest. Wright played Ginny Weasley for 10 years, starting in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, all the way up until the last film in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part II, in 2011. But where is the red head beauty that stole Harry’s heart right now?

After playing Harry Potter’s love interest, Wright continued her passion, she went to the London College of Communication to study film, where she wrote and directed a short film called “Separate We Come, Separate We Go,” which features her Harry Potter co-star, David Thewlis (Professor Remus Lupin). Since then she has starred in the movies, After the Dark and Before I Sleep and is currently starring in a new version of the classic A Christmas Carol.

Cho Chang Then

Katie Leung beat out 4,500 girls for the role of Cho Chang. Her first Harry Potter movie was Goblet of Fire, and she became Harry’s first kiss in Order of the Phoenix. The Scottish actress continued her role in Deathly Hallows and was once named Scotland’s most stylish female.

She’s dabbled with some small screen work, but Leung has yet eclipse her role as Ravenclaw relationship queen Cho Chang. In 2012, she took a break from TV and movie land to star in Wild Swan, a stage production in London.

“Don’t you look – dashing,” was Padma Patil’s claim to Harry Potter fame, forever marking her as the sassiest Patil twin – at least in the movies. But you won’t believe what she looks like now! Get ready…

Recently, Afshan Azad, has come into some social media fame. In the years since her Harry Potter days, Afshan has become popular for her makeup tutorials on Instagram. Her beauty skills are so strong that her images are even being compared to Kylie Jenner. The Hogwarts student has even been dubbed “the Kylie Jenner of Bangladesh.”

Parvarti Patil Then

Parvati Patil was the identical twin sister of Padma. She was sorted into Gryffindor house at Hogwarts, but her sister Padma was sorted into Ravenclaw. Parvati became best friends with Lavender Brown, with whom she shared many interests, such as a love for Divination. Parvati attended the Yule Ball with Harry Potter, and later she joined Dumbledore’s Army.

In case you thought the Patil twins were twins in real life, this is not the case. Like her acting twin Afshan Azad, Shefali hasn’t done much since Potter ended, yet hasn’t received quite as much social media attention. In 2014 she was in the film I Am The Doorway playing a character named Frieda. Yet she mainly keeps out of the spotlight.

Fleur Delacour Then

Fleur  Delacour  attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. During the 1994-1995 school year, she was Beauxbatons’ champion in the Triwizard Tournament. Fleur competed bravely,  but the Tournament ended in tragedy with the murder of Cedric Diggory and the return of Lord Voldemort. She married Bill Weasley, and fought alongside her husband in the Battle of Hogwarts.

The stunning french actress Clémence Poésy, has had a successful career. In 2008, she appeared in the Oscar-nominated film In Bruges with fellow Harry Potter actors Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Ciarán Hinds.  Clémence starred in the Academy Award- Nominated film, 127 Hours, alongside James Franco. The film was nominated for 125 awards and has won 25 total.

Moaning Myrtle Then

Myrtle Elizabeth Warren, was a muggle-born, Ravenclaw student who was killed by Salazar Slytherin’s Basilisk, according to Lord Voldemort’s orders. She then went on to haunt the girl’s first floor bathroom at Hogwarts.

Shirley Henderson, who played Myrtle in the series, is now 50 years-old and is still acting. Aside from “Chamber of Secrets” and “Goblet of Fire,” the Scottish born actress has starred in well known movies, do you remember her being the best friend in “Bridget Jones”? Recently she starred in “Okja,” a sci-fi, drama flick, where she stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaall, Lily Collins and Tilda Swinton.

Sybill Trelawney Then

Professor Sybill Patricia Trelawney  was a half-blood witch and professor of Divination. She is the great-great-granddaughter of the celebrated Cassandra Trelawney, who was also a Seer. It was indeed Trelawney who made the prophecy concerning Voldemort and the one with the power to vanquish him during her job interview with Albus Dumbledore.

Everyone knows and loves this acclaimed British actress, famous for her role as Nanny Mcphee. Since the Harry Potter series, Emma Thompson has continued to take on big roles. She has received five Academy Award nominations (winning two), nine Golden Globe Award nominations (winning two), seven BAFTA Award nominations (winning three), and six Emmy Award nominations (winning one). That is some achievement!

Hermione Granger Then

Hermione was the female protagonist, who had to be right at everything. She was the only member of the original trio to complete her schooling at Hogwarts. After which, she went on to a successful career in the Ministry of Magic.  She eventually became Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement before rising to the top job of Minister of Magic.

Emma Watson’s career has soared to unimaginable heights since she took the role of Hermione Granger in 2001. Since the franchise ended, she’s added a string of acting roles to her name, including The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring and Noah, as well being the face of Burberry. Emma recently starred in the remake of Beauty and the Beast, playing Belle. Emma has become a well-known campaigner for women’s rights, and gave an infamous ‘HeforShe’ speech at the UN in 2014. She is rumored to be worth over $60 million.
