Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker is a fashion icon. The actress has always had a flair for donning avant-garde, cutting-edge fashion looks – but that doesn’t always mean she gets it right. SJP walked the 2015 Met Gala red carpet in a Chinese-inspired look, with a headpiece that made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The Queen of Pop has always loved to cause a stir. She’s provocative, she’s outspoken and she’ll wear just about anything to get your attention. Madonna wore this military-inspired camouflage ensemble to the 2017 Met Gala ball. The outrageous look came complete with long leather gloves, a train of army netting and diamond-studded grills. It’s a no from us, Madge.
We love Demi Lovato. She’s a multi-talented music artist, she’s a body positivity advocate and she usually dominates the red carpet. Sadly, Demi missed the mark with this ridiculous double-denim fiasco. The bodice, the hoops, the white boots, the chap-like jean pants, it’s all just too much to handle.
Helena Bonham Carter
Helena Bonham Carter truly does not care for conventions. She has never been one to pose quietly in a demure gown for the paps at movie premieres and award shows. We love her quirky charm and eccentricity but we simply cannot forgive this ensemble. At least she could have worn matching shoes.
Back in the days when she was still trying to navigate the waters of fame and public scrutiny, pop star Katy Perry showed up to the American Country Music Awards in this atrocious cow-girl get-up. If the bright blue metallic fringed skirt wasn’t enough of an eyesore, it had to contend with her pink cow-print boots.
We know dressing up your baby bump might not be the easiest fashion endeavor, but we had no idea it could go so horribly wrong. Kim Kardashian West arrived at the 2013 Met Gala in a head-to-toe floral dress that made her look like your grandmother’s couch. It was the dress that launched a thousand memes, the gobsmacked internet users of the world dubbed the look ‘the couch dress.’
No worst dressed list would be complete without an appearance by Bjork’s outrageous and eternally ridiculous ‘swan dress.’ The Icelandic singer would turn heads with this unforgettable look at the 1991 Academy Awards. This outfit has since become an iconic moment in fashion history. We hate it so much that we almost love it… almost.
The Grammys have always been known for encouraging a more provocative dress code than other award shows. It seems that Nicki Minaj’s interpretation went just a little too far. The rapper turned heads in this leopard-print disaster at the 2011 award show. Don’t even get us started on the hair.
In the early naughties, Christina Aguilera was pop royalty. With her blonde locks, impressive vocal range, blue eyes and oh-so-naughty dance moves, it seemed she could do no wrong. And then, she stepped on to a red carpet wearing this velvet dress and that regrettable wig. It has yet to be confirmed, but it appears her cat may have gotten into her closet.
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were the undeniable it-couple of the early 2000’s. They were young, gorgeous, talented and in love. They also were responsible for one of the most infamous fashion missteps in pop culture history. The iconic duo wore these matching denim outfits to the American Music Awards in 2001.
We are always willing to applaud a male celeb who is willing to take some fashion risks and Jared Leto most definitely falls into that category with this vividly-colored get-up. The actor gets extra points for creativity but this is undoubtedly a fashion fail.
Where do we even begin? Mel B definitely has the body to pull off a revealing look but this rhinestone-embellished, mesh, full body suit is absolutely horrible. Anything that makes you look like you have a small peacock on your crotch is not a good look.
Sadly for her, Miss Katy Perry makes it on to the list yet again. The pop star wore this dramatic veiled all-red look at 2017’s Met Gala. It might be the work of high fashion, but we’re not sure this look had quite the effect the star was hoping for.
Miley is all about toying with the press, making outlandish fashion statements and keeping her millions of fans guessing as to what she’ll do next. With a quick glance, one might think that the pop star showed up to the 2013 Met Gala nude but no, there’s a secret beige slip hiding under there somewhere…
Rihanna almost always gets it right, but it’s hard to justify this particular look. It looks as if the star is playing dress-up in one of her grandfather’s ill-fitting suits. The oversized, beige monstrosity does absolutely nothing for the usually fashion-forward superstar’s physique.
Dakota Johnson is best known for her sultry role in the erotic drama films 50 Shades of Grey. Regretfully, this particular look is more dowdy than sexy. The pale yellow satin dress the star wore to the 2017 Oscars looks like something out of the 1800’s. We could have also done without the bow and plain-jane hair do.
Cee Lo Green
In one of the more bizarre celeb moves in recent memory, singer-producer Cee Lo Green arrived at the 2017 Grammys wearing this outrageous gold ensemble. We’re still unsure about the intention behind the metallic outfit and mask but it has solidified its place in history as one of the worst red carpet looks we have ever seen.
Is it a bird? Is it a net? No, it’s Lupita Nyong’o’s idea of fashion. The gorgeous and talented actress showed up at the 2014 Met Gala in this green, over-embellished flapper number. It might be Prada, but even a designer label can’t save this fashion fail.
FKA Twigs is young, super hip and always pushing the envelope. This dress could almost pass for some artsy, contemporary fashion statement but we have yet to be convinced. The Christopher Kane creation incorporated abstract images of the male body but if you take a closer look at top of the slit of the dress, it appears that some body parts are not as ‘abstract’ as we would have hoped.
Being the younger sister of pop culture supernova Beyonce is probably challenging. It almost makes sense that Solange would vie for a place in the spotlight by wearing something outrageous. She walked the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala in this metallic dress that would have been more at home in a B-grade sci-fi flick.
Anne Hathaway is usually regarded as a serious contender for ‘best-dressed’ titles, alas, the 2015 Met Gala would blemish the actress’s long-standing style reputation. For some unknown reason, Hathaway thought this gold, floor-length, hooded dress would be a good idea. Guess again, sweetie.
The 2016 Golden Globe red carpet saw some horrendous looks one of which was Cate Blanchett’s bubble gum pink Givenchy dress. We’re not sure if its the tassels hanging from her chest or that weird asymmetrical hairdo but the ensemble left us unimpressed.
Gwen Stefani is undeniably gorgeous, but even her age-defying figure couldn’t salvage this black mesh disaster. Some might love it, but we hate it. She looks like she could almost pass for a gothic umbrella. Our advice? Fire your stylist as soon as possible.
We thought that supermodels could pull off anything but the lovely Heidi Klum has proved us wrong. It might be the neck bow, the nauseating gold print or the horrific fit, but this look is a big, fat, shiny fashion don’t.
There’s something about Alan Cumming’s pale, hairy legs on the red carpet that makes us super uncomfortable. The actor might have been attempting to pull off ‘sailor chic’ but this is more like a shipwreck.
Kris might be the business-savvy matriarch of one of the world’s most famous families but even she can’t rock eighties shoulder pads. The Kardashian mom wore this garish red and gold-embellished ensemble to the 2015 Met Gala.
Ruffles and rhinestones and ombre, oh my! Zoe Saldana’s 2010 Oscars dress had so much going on, we didn’t know quite where to look first. Just a reminder to the starlet; when in doubt, less is definitely more.
We’re not entirely sure who this woman is or why we should care but she definitely deserves a spot on this list. It looks like she stumbled into a construction site before arriving on the red carpet, or perhaps this dress is made out of ocean pollution? Who knows?
Who could ever forget Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress? Back in 2010, Lady Gaga showed up to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards wearing an outfit – and a pair of shoes! – entirely made of raw cow meat. Designed by Franc Fernandez, the dress was supposedly a walking piece of art exploring the boundaries of self-expression. Time magazine named the pop star’s controversial look as the Top Fashion Moment of 2010.
In an attempt to shed her child star innocence, Miley Cyrus went to some pretty outrageous lengths. Aside from the blatant marijuana use and constant onstage twerking, the singer made some truly bizarre fashion choices. Miley wore this interesting ensemble to the 2015 MTV VMAs.
