Reiki Healing – What is it and how does it help?

Designed to promote healing, relaxation and reduce stress, this Japanese technique is used by people all around the world, from every walk of life. From doctors to children and everything in between, this alternative medicine heals energy and is administered by “laying on hands”. Based on the idea that there is a “life force energy” that flows through all living things, it is said that when this energy is low (due to everything that we have to deal with on a day to day basis) we are able to use Reiki healing to bring us back to full health, in the mind, body, and soul.

A very simple, natural and safe treatment, many have said that, although they may have been skeptical beforehand, they saw and felt, “miraculous results”. Reiki can be performed anywhere that is suitable for the client, whether it be their own home, a studio or even outdoors. A professional practitioner will ask the receiver to lie or sit comfortably, fully clothed and then the session will begin. Using their hands, the practitioner will guide the energy over the person’s body through a non-invasive and light touch. It is important to know that this experience should never feel intrusive and there should be little pressure applied. If there are particular areas that require more healing (in the case of a wound or injury), the practitioner will spend extra time here.

Each person has a different Reiki experience, with some feeling the effects immediately through a heated energy force between the hands of the practitioner and their bodies while others notice a change a few hours or even days later. The experience, in general, is certainly one of comfort and each session will usually last around one hour. Reiki can be done in sessions or simply, every so often. Each person requesting the healing can decide what is best for them and seek advice from their Reiki healer.

Although everyone has access to this great “life force energy” only those who have gone through an “attunement” can heal others with Reiki energy. The energy is transferred from a Reiki Master to anyone who wishes to receive it through three different stages, Reiki One, Reiki Two and Reiki Master, each teaching a more in-depth meaning and understanding of this healing technique.

If you are interested in experiencing Reiki healing or learn how to pass on the energy to others, be sure to check that the practitioner is registered and authorized.
