The matter of who has died on Game of Thrones has been the subject of many a lunch conversation since the very first episode. From the very beginning, we all learned that no one is safe from seeing their demise on the screen. The first season saw us completely shaken by the death of some of the biggest characters, introducing the viewer to a concept that is very rare for television – no one is safe. During the eight seasons on the air, Game of Thrones has introduced and killed off over 98 characters! The characters killed off during season eight are not anywhere near the amount in like in season six, where 29 characters, some of which were huge for the series, were killed off in spectacular fashion. This show holds no prisoners (pun intended) and therefore there are deaths that we mourned as if they were our own friends (Hodor anyone?). This show is an epic heartbreaker and has managed to maintain the attention of the public for years, and will continue to do so for many more to come.
This was perhaps one of the most satisfying deaths on Game of Thrones. Joffrey was a character that most people detested but played a crucial role in the development of the story and other characters around him (Sansa!).
Joffrey’s dramatic death came at the hand of Olenna Tyrell, the grandmother of Margaery Tyrell and the wisest older woman Game of Thrones has seen, as she poisons young Joffrey to save the rest of them.
