What started out as science fiction has now become a reality in many cases. Robots are just one of the innovative advances in technology that have become a real-life occurrence that will affect the way we live our lives. There are those who hold a dystopian view of technology and robots, but in these cases, the robots were created to do nothing but good and make human life a whole lot more enjoyable and eventually assist us in living longer more fruitful lives. These robots are set to make a serious difference in the way we conduct our everyday lives. These robots are already changing things up in the industrial field, which many of us are not aware of as we are not normally privy to such details. The future of robotics is bright and there are men and women across the globe who are working on making the advancements that we are lacking as humans in the very machines they are creating. Allow us to introduce you to the future – these robots are set to change our lives.

Sophia

Sophia is a social piece of artificial intelligence that can process language as it is said to her. The United Nations classified her as an Innovation Champion due to her ability to communicate. The country of Saudi Arabia granted the intelligent machine citizenship as it was human enough to them that they did not see a reason why.

There are those out there who have debated whether shutting her down would be considered murder or not.

Method-2

Method-2 cost an astounding $100 million to build and resides in South Korea where it is in a test facility. This robot, which very much looks like one, is controlled by whoever sits at his heart. You can have him wave his hands, walk in a certain direction, and handle any ground he walks on.

The reason for his development is classified but considering his capabilities, this impressive piece of technology is set to help us humans in areas where we are weak and need a stronger build to handle our environment. Method-2 also has the ability to be weaponized should it need to be.

BionicAnts

Real live ants are some of the most hard-working animals on this earth, so it makes sense that their robotic counterparts will be just as incredible at not only working together but the feats they can achieve as a unit. BionicAnts are larger than regular ants with a robotic body that does not need a remote control to function.

These ants react to the stimuli around them, as well as communicate with the other ants around them without any noise whatsoever. They can finish intricate tasks together efficiently and can handle the tasks that are put in front of them. Talk about an ant infestation that we won’t hate!

BigDog

BigDog has a simple name but can handle much more than simple tasks. BigDog is about the size of a donkey, so larger than a regular canine, and can hold approximately 100 pounds of weight on its body. This robot was construction by Boston Dynamics, a company that was created and currently functions under Google.

The machine can also cross grounds that would otherwise be too difficult for humans to properly pass. BigDog can handle ground that cars or other wheeled vehicles would not be able to, making this pup one serious companion in the field, whether recreationally or military.

CB2

CB2 looks a little creepy, no doubt about it, as this robot was designed to look like a young child. However, the technology behind CB2 is not only not creepy but downright fascinating. The hard-working scientists who built CB2 were looking to create artificial intelligence through facial recognition.

CB2 can be taught to get meaning from facial expressions and other such elements in a human being and process it into a language. The quest in creating such intelligent non-human entities varies from creator to creator but it is rather astonishing that a machine can understand a human and seem so real.

BionicFlyingFox

In addition to having quite a long name, this robot is far from perfect as of yet. The BionicFlyingFox has some trouble getting off the ground and into the flying part, but once it is up in the air it can collect data from the sky in a detailed and thorough manner.

The robot has a 7-foot wingspan and is therefore very stable in the air and can handle rough conditions. The more air time it gets the better it gets.

Who names these guys? This cheetah-inspired robot got its name from the cheetah pattern that adorns its metallic arms. Another reason for its name has to do with its ability to jump almost 3 feet into the air, run heavily on the rough ground, and climb stairs.

There is something about the need to navigate through rough terrain that has many of these robots able to do so, perhaps this shows where most of our human flaws lie.

Finally, a more scientific name! This robot was created by a Japanese man called Hiroshi Ishiguro who worked at Osaka University. He Hiroshi decided to build an android who would look as human as possible. He ended up making just that, as the android has the ability to speak, blink, and recognize others’ faces!

The android is only in the early stages, we cannot imagine her capabilities once more advances are placed in her system.

The perfect name for a dog – Spot. This little guy is the smaller version of its counterpart BigDog. This little yet not so little robot gained internet notoriety when a video of it surfaced, showing the men who built him throwing him to the ground time and again, only to have the robot get back on its own four legs every single time.

The fact that he is a metal dog makes us feel only a tiny bit better about him being thrown to the ground.

REEM

REEM was created by PAL Robotics. The purpose of this robot is to be the perfect tour guide and customer assistance representative for public spaces such as airports and malls.

While they did indeed get the job done and REEM is as helpful as can be, the fact that he does not have a mouth is only slightly disconcerting and a tad standoff-ish to those who are meant to use his services. A smile would make him more approachable.

GhostSwimmer

This robot was created for the United States Navy. GhostSwimmer looks just like a shark but can provide much more than terror for the military sector. The robot can scan 300 feet below the ocean surface, therefore replacing the need for a human member of the Navy getting into a wetsuit or submarine.

This saves a lot of money and possibly dangerous conditions for the soldier. Robots for the protection of humankind, we like that very much.

Robugtix T8X

Now we are not sure as to the real purpose of this robot but it sure is cute and can move without being touched so we have to give it some credit. This little robot spider needs a remote control to move, but when asked to do something it sure does what it is asked.

The 8-legged can only move in certain directions and not throw spider web at you, but perhaps that is in the next version.

PETMAN

Color us impressed with this android. This soldier was created in order to protect human soldiers from going into war zones that can be dangerous for them. This robot can crawl, sweat (yes, sweat), run and walk just like a human can.

The military uses this robot to test questionable devices as if they are indeed explosive, they will not hurt the android. This one can also perform rescue missions as well, proving itself very useful.

The Talon

The Talon has an incredibly important job within the military sector. This robot was built to identify IEDs, weaponize itself when needed, and most importantly, it can use its talon to grab a wounded soldier and drag it away from danger in a dangerous area within a war zone.

There are many instances when firefights will happen and it is too dangerous to extract a soldier – not for The Talon, he can and will go in for the rescue.

Kuratas

Taking imagination to a whole new level, a man named Kogoro Kurata, an engineer, decided to use his skills and build an anime-inspired robot that can house a person inside of it and controlled from within.

The robot was built back in 2012 and is a man-handled robotic suit. This number can be weaponized as well, so we are not sure if we are to get nervous as to its capabilities or be incredibly impressed.
