Facts About Britney Spears You Probably Didn’t Know

Britney Spears has achieved the unexpected and more in her career, and continues to dominate as the original pop queen. She has not only racked up awards, including a Grammy, six MTV Video Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she has generated hundreds of millions of dollars. She started out young in the spotlight, with the media following her every move, but here are some things you don’t know about Britney Jean….

In 2002, Spears opened up her own restaurant in New York City, serving Louisiana-style Cajun food, following in her grandma’s footsteps. The eatery was called Nyla. However, Spears had a disagreement with management, and ended up terminating the partnership. The restaurant now serves Italian food. Well short lived, but an interesting venture.

Hit Me Baby, Almost Not Her Hit

It’s hard to believe that anyone else could have sung the famous hit “…Baby One More Time,” but it was originally written for the band TLC; the group rejected the future chart topper, we wonder if they regret their decision. The music video for “…Baby One More Time” also became a massive success. In the video, the 17-year-old Spears is dressed as a Catholic school girl. Now we wonder if that would be acceptable.

Pop Music Wasn’t Her Passion

Spears, now hailed the Princess of Pop for all eternity, wasn’t actually interested in making pop music at all. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she admitted she envisioned herself singing “Sheryl Crow music, but younger — more adult contemporary.” Her record label, Jive, wanted to pair her with more pop-leaning producers and writers, and she agreed as she thought they knew what was best for her career and future as an artist. “It made more sense to go pop, because I can dance to it,” she told the magazine. “It’s more me.” Well it looks like it paid off.

What You Never Knew

In the late ’90s, pop bands were the thing from girl groups like TLC and the Spice Girls to boy bands like Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, all gracing the covers of teeny bop magazines. Yet few actually know that Spears herself in fact began her career in an all girl band, a pop group called Innosense. According to The New York Times, the Orlando-based group was meant to be “an American version of the Spice Girls,” but Spears had her sights set on a solo career, and left. What a wise choice that was. Imagine the world without ‘It’s Britney B**ch’.
