Facts About Britney Spears You Probably Didn’t Know

Britney Spears has achieved the unexpected and more in her career, and continues to dominate as the original pop queen. She has not only racked up awards, including a Grammy, six MTV Video Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she has generated hundreds of millions of dollars. She started out young in the spotlight, with the media following her every move, but here are some things you don’t know about Britney Jean….

Restaurateur

In 2002, Spears opened up her own restaurant in New York City, serving Louisiana-style Cajun food, following in her grandma’s footsteps. The eatery was called Nyla. However, Spears had a disagreement with management, and ended up terminating the partnership. The restaurant now serves Italian food. Well short lived, but an interesting venture.

Hit Me Baby, Almost Not Her Hit

It’s hard to believe that anyone else could have sung the famous hit “…Baby One More Time,” but it was originally written for the band TLC; the group rejected the future chart topper, we wonder if they regret their decision. The music video for “…Baby One More Time” also became a massive success. In the video, the 17-year-old Spears is dressed as a Catholic school girl. Now we wonder if that would be acceptable.

Pop Music Wasn’t Her Passion

Spears, now hailed the Princess of Pop for all eternity, wasn’t actually interested in making pop music at all. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she admitted she envisioned herself singing “Sheryl Crow music, but younger — more adult contemporary.” Her record label, Jive, wanted to pair her with more pop-leaning producers and writers, and she agreed as she thought they knew what was best for her career and future as an artist. “It made more sense to go pop, because I can dance to it,” she told the magazine. “It’s more me.” Well it looks like it paid off.

What You Never Knew

In the late ’90s, pop bands were the thing from girl groups like TLC and the Spice Girls to boy bands like Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, all gracing the covers of teeny bop magazines. Yet few actually know that Spears herself in fact began her career in an all girl band, a pop group called Innosense. According to The New York Times, the Orlando-based group was meant to be “an American version of the Spice Girls,” but Spears had her sights set on a solo career, and left. What a wise choice that was. Imagine the world without ‘It’s Britney B**ch’.

The Notebook Could Have Starred Spears

Gosling famously starred alongside Rachel McAdams in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ heart-wrenching love story The Notebook, but according to Entertainment Tonight, Spears in fact auditioned to play the leading role of Allie Calhoun. The two gladly had a mini “Mickey Mouse Club” reunion on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2018, revealing that it’d been “years” since they saw each other.

Reality Hot Mess- Nearly Ruined Her Career

If you are a true fan, you will remember that Spears had her own reality show with her now ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2005 who was her back-up dancer. “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic” was not on the air for long, but the pop icon doesn’t seem to have positive memories of the UPN docuseries. “I would never do something like that again,” she told The Telegraph in 2013. “Actually, that was really bad. That was probably the worst thing I’ve done in my career.”

Highest Paid Celeb Judge In TV History

She did make one exception to reality TV, joining the first US season of “The X Factor” in 2012. At the time, Spears negotiated a whopping paycheck for her single-season run — to the amount of a reported $15 million, yep, you read that right, which made her the highest-paid celebrity judge on a reality show in TV history. Spears was then kicked from her reality pedestal in 2018, when Katy Perry earned $25 million salary for ABC’s “American Idol”. This caused a short rift.

Blown Off By A Royal

Britney has had a couple of famous exes, Justin Timberlake being the most well-known. However, word on the grapevine, is that she’d been dating Prince William before hookinh up with the *NSYNC frontman. In a 2002 interview, Spears gave the gossip, telling host Frank Skinner, “Yeah, it was just like, all blown out of proportion — we exchanged emails for a little bit, and he was supposed to come and see me somewhere, but it didn’t work out.” When he asked if she was “blown out by Prince William,” Spears answered, “Yeah.”

Billion-Dollar Fragrance Empire

The pp princess had many lucrative deals, but none were as successful as her perfume empire, which grew surprisingly fast to becoming billion-dollar business that includes 24 fragrances since the release of her first perfume, Curious, in 2004. Curious was reportedly one of the best-selling celebrity fragrances ever, having sold more than 500 million bottles, and reaching $30 million in sales each year. Move over Kim K.

Kylie Lost Out

Kylie Minogue was actually supposed to record the hit song “Toxic,” which she seems to have regretted. In a 2008 interview, she reportedly said of the song, “I listened to a snippet of it in the record company offices and decided against it. It’s like the fish that got away. You just have to accept it.” Similarly “I’m a Slave 4 U” was meant for Janet Jackson, who passed on the soon-to-be hit song, and what a mistake that was, but then again, we can’t imagine anyone else singing it or doing as an amazing music video.
