What Bindi Irwin Was Wearing In A Recent Instagram Photo Sent The Internet Into Overdrive

Bindi Irwin grew up on our screens and we all loved watching her working alongside her father, and it was recently that a post on her Instagram page sent waves through the internet.

On our screens

Back in 2015, Bindi Irwin wowed us with her amazing footwork with her dance partner Derek Hough on Dancing With The Stars. The duo then went on to be crowned the winners of the show which was in its 21st season. Before she appeared on the show, Bindi was mostly known as the daughter of the late Steve Irwin.

Her Instagram post

Bindi quickly came out from the shadow of her famous conservationist father and gained many fans. In fact, she became so popular that when she posted this on her Instagram page, she never expected it blow up as much as it did. As they say, her post almost definitely broke the internet.

Her father

Before her stint on the show, many people would have remembered Bindi as a young girl who was her father’s sidekick. Steve Irwin was known to us all as ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ and could often be seen out in the wilderness filming his TV show or working at the Australia Zoo. “Crickey” had become one of his taglines, and we were all saying it.

Named after a crocodile

Along with his wife Teri, they gave us access to animals as we’d never seen them before. And it was at the zoo, which had been in Steve’s family since the ’70s, that the married couple got the idea for the name of their Daughter. Bindi was named after one of Steve’s beloved crocodiles.

Running in the family

The family was a household name and Bindi didn’t go unnoticed as she made her first TV appearance when she was just two years old. She grew up in the spotlight alongside her father in shows Croc Files and Crocodile Hunter. It was evident that caring for and making a difference to the protection of animals ran in the family.

Unique Childhood

Bindi and Robert were raised in a unique home environment, at the grounds of Australia Zoo in Queensland. Her most meaningful memories from childhood mainly involve those special moments she experienced with animals, thanks to her dad. Steve began his day at 2am tending to the animals. Later, when Bindi and Robert woke up, he would get ready for school and Bindi lovingly recalls him giving them ice cream for breakfast. They’d then jump on his motorbike and zoom happily through the zoo, checking up on the animals, before their lessons in their little schoolroom on site. What a childhood!

Living Life To The Max

“We’d be taking a maths test and he’d burst through the door and say ‘Nope, your maths test is done and we’re going to climb a mountain.’ How awesome that that was our childhood?

A star in her own rights

It wasn’t long until Bindi was recognized as having her own talents and it seemed she was born to be on TV. She continued to appear on her dad’s TV shows and then began getting her own offers. In 2002 she appeared on The Wiggles: Wiggly Safari. Due to her infectious personality, she then got her own show on the Discovery Kids channel, Bindi the Jungle Girl. But it was during that time, something unthinkable happened.

A sad event

Sadly, as Bindi was making her new show, her father Steve had a tragic accident. While doing what he loved, and exploring the ocean and some six-foot stingrays, one turned on him and he swam behind it to capture it swimming away. It was there that the stingray launched an attack on Steve which lead to his passing.

Her amazing strength

Bindi was only just 8 years old when her father had his accident, but she showed utter courage and strength when she wrote and read out her own speech during his memorial service. The funeral drew in a huge crowd and all 5,000 attendees stood up and applauded this brave young girl – it was also a televised service.

Her tribute to him

Bindi knew that she wanted to keep her father’s legacy alive and it was then in June 2007 that she helped to arrange and hosted a television documentary about her late father, My Daddy, the Crocodile Hunter. The show was a tribute to Steve and his life’s work. Bindi also had a love for singing a dedicated a song to him called Trouble in the Jungle.

A budding star

It was around this point that Bindi had begun developing her own career and it was taking off very nicely and she even managed to scoop an award in 2008 for the Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series award – she was the youngest person to ever win the award. In 2010, she hit the big screen when she appeared in the movie, Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove as Kirra.

She was a TV regular

From there, Bindi became a regular on our screens and had become a popular child star, with appearances as well as her own show. From 2012 to 2015 she had her own game show that was filmed at the family zoo. As well as Bindi’s Bootcamp, she also played a key role in the Nim’s Island, a children’s movie which became a big hit.

Winning an award

Following in her father’s footsteps, Bindi was doing a lot of work with animals and was awarded the title as Young Conservationist of the Year in 2014 by the Australian Geographic Society. It wasn’t long though until scandal hit when they joined forces with SeaWorld – a business that had been in the press an awful lot following animal abuse allegations. And even Bindi’s grandfather openly criticized them.

Fond Memories

Bindi didn’t realise how well-known and adored her Dad was, until his shocking death when the family received thousands of cards from fans sending their condolences from around the world.Bindi looks back fondly on the time she spent with her dad, and in a recent interview she opened up with these touching yet sad words. ‘The fact that I got 8 wonderful years with dad, and all these memories, I will forever be grateful for that.’

Advice For Others

Bindi’s advice for those who have also lost one is that it’s important to realise everyone has a different grief journey. “Its so important to remember losing someone you love so very much is like losing a piece of your heart and, when I figured that out, it really helped me. I will forever miss Dad every single day but I can find love and light and happiness again. You can find that joy and that’s what the person you’ve lost would want. Everyone has a different grief journey and that’s ok. As long as it’s not hurting yourself or anyone around you, there’s no right or wrong way.”

Fear Of Animals

Later, I probe Bindi on animals. There must be at least one she is frightened of. Crocodiles? No. Snakes? No. Spiders? No. “It’s hard to say I’m afraid of any because I think we fear certain animals because we don’t know enough about them, like crocs or snakes. I feel lucky I love every animal because I understand how they work and I can connect with them,” she says diplomatically before pausing: “But, there is an animal that does intimidate me [note: not scared], that’s the wasp because I can’t read them! I can tell if a crocodile’s going to try and kill me but a wasp will just come out of nowhere and sting me.”

Dancing With The Stars

Bindi surprised everyone by joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars in 2015. Her partner was dancing pro Derek Hough, and Bindi wowed the crowds with her incredible 8 knockout performances before taking the title of winner. She was just the tender age of 17, and needed a specific license from California courts in order to be able to be a contestant on the popular show.

A Whirlwind

Even with this exciting opportunity, Bindi didn’t let fame and success go to her head. She enrolled in TAFE Queensland East Coast. There she was also successful and the talented teen even got her Certificate III qualifications in business and tourism. Her dad would have been so proud.

Hard To Find Time For Love

Even with her busy schedule, she made time for other things in her life. It wasn’t long before she met Chandler Powell, a professional wakeboarder who, reportedly, already knew and loved the Irwins. Bindi had met him before, she gave his family a guided tour of Australia Zoo, after, he asked her if he could write to her, which of course she said yes.

Rocky Start

Their relationship in the early days was hardly perfect. It didn’t help that they could only see each other every few months, and when they did, they were accompanied by Bindi’s mother and brother Robert. Another pet peeve for Bindi was that Chandler wanted to have bro time with Robert and that was very frustrating for her.

What Would Her Father Say?

The big question on everyone’s lips, was what would her father think? It must have been so hard for her not to be able to talk to her dad about it, or get his approval. What did he think about the young guy? Was this new love interest in her life going to treat her right?

As Time Went On

Things did eventually grow and develop for the new love birds. Bindi knew that Chandler was the one, and knew that her dad would have been so happy for her. Steve once told her that anyone who wanted to date his daughter, would need to dive across a pond full of terrifying crocodiles first. It seemed that he passed this test with an A+.

Father’s Approval

Bindi has such strong convictions about her relationship and her father’s approval, that she asserted she feels like her dad sent her a message about it. And with that, in 2017 as the relationship was getting stronger and stronger, Chandler moved into his own private area at the Irwins’ Australia Zoo. He really did do a good job of impressing the family.

Talking About Him In Public

Bindi isn’t shy about expressing her feelings for Chandler on social media. In fact, she regularly used her Instagram to announce her deep love for him. One particular post says “Thank you for being such a light in my life… I love your kindness, your patience and your strength. You are an extraordinary human being and a true blessing. #ForeverMySunshine. Ah young love.

Are Things Getting Serious?

Fans were speculating whether things in their relationship were moving fast. The pair first started a fan frenzy when they set off on a romantic trip to Las Vegas; however, Bindi’s publicist denied that they got hitched, which upset a lot of people.
